The Public Works department is excited to share with you what we've been up to! As always, feel free to reach out to us with any comments, questions, or concerns. This is YOUR City and we are honored to work for you.
This year, Spruce Up Stevenson spruced up our downtown, and it was the kickoff to cleaning up Walnut Park! You may have seen some of our excellent volunteers from the Stevenson Downtown Association, City of Stevenson Public Works staff, and Mayor Anderson working in this area at the end of April. They were doing some much needed pruning of the trees, rhododendrons, and clearing the patio area. Our Public Works team will continue to clean up this city park this summer. We could not be more excited to see it looking beautiful.
May 19th-May 25th, 2024 we celebrate National Public Works Week! We are grateful to have such a wonderful crew of community-minded individuals working hard to improve the City of Stevenson. They are responsible for building and maintaining the City’s infrastructure which includes roads, trees, sewer services, cleaning drinking water, and so much more! Our quality of life depends on them. When they are not at work, there is always someone on call to help with emergencies. To commemorate this weeklong celebration, we will be highlighting our own Public Works team and the hard work they do every day. Here are a few of the projects they are currently working on, as well as some they have planned for the future.
One of our largest, multi phase, projects is the Wastewater Treatment Upgrade projects.
Collection System Upgrades:
Phase One: Rock Creek Pump Station has been completed
Phase Two: Replacing three public sewer pump stations. This phase in underway and scheduled to be completed this year.
Phase Three: Scheduled to start next year. More info coming soon.
These upgrades will prevent sewer overflows and ensure water is clean before it return to the Columbia River.
Water Treatment Updates:
Construction on the Fairgrounds Pump Station began this April
Kanaka Pump Station work also kicked off this April
Cascade Pump Station is scheduledy to start July 2024.
All three are scheduled to be completed by October of this year. These upgrades will keep our city’s sewer system working effectively and efficiently.
Recently, you may have noticed a lot of men in safety orange on Ryan Allen and Foster Creek Roads. To resurface these streets, we are partnering with Skamania County to keep the condition of our streets high. Thank you, Skamania County Public works, for all you do for our city! We appreciate you!
In addition to maintaining existing infrastructure, we have been working hard to support our citizens building new homes by installing new water service lines. This provides accessible water to the residents of Stevenson.
These are only a handful of the projects our Public Works team tackles every day. Without their dedication, we would not be the city we are. We are beyond grateful for everything their department does for us as a city and a community. Thank you to Gordy, Jon, Carson, John, Devon, Cody, and Carolyn! To show our support throughout the year, on Thursdays, We Wear Orange! Please feel free to join in on showing your support and appreciation by wearing your favorite orange on Thursdays!
