Starting a business is exciting yet can be challenging. As with any big life move you should seek legal and financial assistance to assure that you think through all of the risks and challenges. Once you’re ready to move forward there are a few basic items of which you need to be aware.
- You may need to register your business or get a license with the State of Washington. Start here to determine what you will need. check with your legal and financial advisor prior to selecting which type of business to form (limited liability company, sole proprietor, S-Corp, C-Corp, etc.).
- Depending on the business type, you may be able to work out of your house or you may need to find office, retail or industrial space for your proposed business. Before you sign a lease make sure that you contact the City’s Planning Department at 509.427.5970 to determine what land use permits may be required to open shop at a particular location.
- If you plan to operate a small business out of your house please review the City’s Home Occupation ordinance to determine which type of home occupation permit is required.
- The City of Stevenson requires a business license for businesses operating in or located in the City of Stevenson. The application process is quick and easy.
